3M Agrees to Produce Millions of Face Masks for White House
In the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the White House has been working to secure the production of essential medical supplies, including face masks. On April 6, 2020, the White House announced a significant agreement with 3M, one of the world`s leading manufacturers of face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
Under the terms of the agreement, 3M will increase its production capacity of N95 respirators, which are critical for healthcare workers and first responders who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis. Specifically, 3M will produce an additional 166.5 million masks over the next three months, with 35 million masks per month being delivered to the United States.
This deal comes after weeks of mounting pressure on 3M to increase production of N95 masks, which have been in short supply due to the high demand caused by the pandemic. The White House has been working to secure more masks for healthcare workers and other essential personnel, and this new agreement with 3M is a significant step forward in that effort.
The partnership between 3M and the White House is a notable example of how private companies can work with government officials to address critical needs during a crisis. In a statement announcing the agreement, 3M CEO Mike Roman highlighted the company`s commitment to helping with the COVID-19 response efforts.
„The health and safety of our employees, healthcare workers, and first responders is always our top priority,“ he said. „We are working tirelessly to increase production of critical supplies for the healthcare industry, and this partnership with the White House will help us do just that.“
The production increase will take place primarily at 3M`s facilities in the United States, with additional capacity being added in other countries as well. The company has also been working to ramp up production of other PPE, such as gloves and hand sanitizers, to help address the surging demand caused by the pandemic.
Overall, the 3M agreement with the White House is a promising development in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. With more masks being produced and delivered to those who need them most, healthcare workers and first responders can continue their essential work with greater protection and assurance.
